Spending time Outdoors is beneficial

Spending time in nature has been shown to increase our mood, decrease stress, and increase energy levels.  A meta-analysis of research has found an association between spending time outdoors with lower risks for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, premature death, preterm birth, stress, and high blood pressure.

So just get outdoors! You do not  have to commit to a marathon or major hike.  Here are twenty easy ways to spend more time in the great outdoors per realsimple.com.1

  2. Park further away from your office.
  3. Get a dog, or dog sit for a neighbor, at a shelter.
  4. BBQ
  5. Exercise in your yard.
  6. Work outdoors, walk on  your breaks, take your calls while going for a walk.
  7. Take your lunch outside.
  8. Meditate in the park.
  9. Give yourself a Mani/Pedi near an open window, let your nails dry on the porch.
  10. Your next date, make it a stroll.
  11. Buy a toy you can use outdoors (jump rope, trampoline, skates).
  12. Talk on the phone while walking, catch up with family and friends.
  13. Shop at farmers’ markets.
  14. Park at a distant  spot in parking lots.
  15. Read in the park.
  16. Listen to podcasts.
  17. Do your stretches.
  18. Run errands; walk to local post office/bank.
  19. Go to local outdoor fun activities outdoor concerts/movies.

Here are some other ideas. Watch a sunrise or sunset, whichever goes with your natural circadian rhythm. Make snow angels(brrr). Go fishing or rake those leaves, etc.

Options are limitless, just enjoy the splendor of God’s creation.
